We provide validation for up to 2 hours of parking in the garage attached to our clinic for a fee of $2. The garage entrance is 650 Exeter Street, between Fleet Street and Aliceanna Street. Once inside the garage, follow signs to the Theater/Shops/MAC, and take the elevator to the second floor. More information can be found on the Contact Us page.

+ Why is physical therapy a good choice?

Physical therapists are well equipped to not only treat pain but also its source. Physical therapists are experts at treating movement and neuromuscular disorders. Pain often accompanies a movement disorder, and physical therapists can help correct the disorder and relieve the pain.

+ Why are people referred to physical therapy?

You may be referred to physical therapy because of a movement dysfunction associated with pain. Your difficulty with moving part(s) of your body (like bending at the low back or difficulty sleeping on your shoulder, etc.) very likely results in limitations with your daily activities (e.g., difficulty getting out of a chair, an inability to play sports, or trouble with walking, etc.). Physical therapists treat these movement dysfunctions and their associated pains and restore your body's ability to move in a normal manner.

+ What does a physical therapist do?

Physical therapists help people with orthopedic conditions such as low back pain or osteoporosis; joint and soft tissue injuries such as fractures and dislocations; neurological conditions such as stroke and Parkinson's disease; workplace injuries including repetitive stress disorders and sports injuries. Because physical therapists are experts in movement and function, they do not confine their talents to treating people who are ill. A large part of a physical therapist's program is directed at preventing injury, loss of movement, and even surgery.

We believe the individualized "hands on" approach at Elite PT is of tremendous value to our patients. Therapeutic exercise, functional training, and patient education are the other cornerstones of a physical therapist's treatment.

+ Is my therapist licensed?

All physical therapists have a graduate degree from an accredited School of Physical Therapy. Depending on the year of graduation, your therapist may have a master's or doctorate of physical therapy. All of our therapists hold a Maryland Physical Therapy license that is in good standing.

+ What happens during my initial visit?

Your physical therapist will do a thorough evaluation and examination of your condition. Range of motion, strength, pain, functional capacity and work status will all be evaluated. Based on these findings an individualized treatment plant will be established. This usually included "hands on" manual techniques, exercise instruction and education regarding how your body works.

+ What do I need to bring with me?

All new patients need to bring in the following information for their first appointment: Completed New Patient Packet Completed Injury Assessment Questionnaire (specific to your injury) Current Health Insurance Card(s) Prescription from referring physician Any X-rays, MRIs or physician reports related to your injury Please make sure all forms are thoroughly read and completed. We request you arrive 10 minutes early to your first appointment if you have not completed your paperwork or if you need to change into appropriate attire. Patients are responsible for contacting their insurance company prior to their first appointment to verify their benefits for physical therapy. How should I dress? Generally most work out attire is appropriate for each physical therapy appointment. Below are more injury specific guidelines for what to wear.

Physical Therapy Attire:

  • Low Back – Shorts and T-shirt
  • Neck – Tank top
  • Mid Back – T-shirt and shorts (sports bra for women)
  • Upper Extremity – Tank top
  • Lower Extremity – Shorts
  • Foot – Shorts, athletic shoes and previous orthotics (if applicable)

+ How long will each treatment session take?

Each treatment after your initial evaluation will be between 45 minutes and one hour in length. Our goal is to initially have each patient remain with the physical therapist that performed the evaluation so the treatments reflect a level of consistency. We do however encourage patients to be open to treatment by another physical therapist, as new insights can be gained that will facilitate improved outcomes.

+ How many visits will I need?

This is highly variable. You may need one visit, or you may need multiple visits at a frequency to be determined following your initial evaluation. It depends on your diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, past medical history, etc. You will be re-evaluated on a monthly basis and when you see your doctor, we will provide you with a progress report with our recommendations.
